Kiryat Motzkin, although it is a suburb of Haifa, is absolutely not like it in the good sense of the word.
First, the city is very clean. Here you do not need to look under your feet non-stop, so as not to “plunge into history”, as in Haifa. There is practically no scattered debris. The lawns are mowed and manicured.
Secondly, in the city of Kiryat Motzkin there are much fewer old buildings, and those that do exist do not gape with empty eye-socket windows.
Thirdly, there is practically no chaotic street trading anywhere and everywhere. Visual noise from signs is kept to a minimum.
In many ways, of course, cleanliness and new buildings are the merit of the youth of the city. Kiryat Motzkin was founded by repatriates from Poland in 1934, but received city status only in 1976. Initially, the city was built up with three-story houses with spacious apartments, but recently they have been increasingly replaced by modern apartment complexes with underground parking and their own infrastructure. Apartments in these houses are the most expensive of all the suburbs of Haifa.
There is also a private sector in Kiryat Motzkin. It is represented by beautiful houses with interesting architecture, low fences, well-groomed gardens and all this on quiet streets. Great place to live.
The city has many park areas, playgrounds, squares and shady alleys. Outdoor exercise machines and bike paths are everywhere. Sports in Kiryat Motzkin are welcome. The city even has its own basketball team.
Families with children from all over the area flock to Kiryat Motzkin for the weekend. Here is the best zoo in Israel. On Shabbat, Kiryat Motzkin is easily accessible by metronite, stopping very close to the zoo. The zoo itself is located in High Park and is a complex of 38 acres with different landscape areas that are designed to mimic the natural habitat of different animals. At the zoo, you can watch the feeding of animals, visit various themed events and have great fun watching giraffes, monkeys, penguins and many others.
Also in High Park there is a small amusement park with children's carousels. On weekends, there is a special tariff when buying a ticket to the zoo, you can pay extra to get unlimited access to all attractions. And while the children carelessly run from one carousel to another, parents can have a bite to eat pizza and drink coffee in the local cafeteria.
In 2017, Kiryat Motzkin confidently won the all-Israeli competition in 2 categories at once: “The best city to live in” and “The most beautiful city in Israel”. Well, in my opinion, it was a well-deserved victory.
